City of Chilliwack 150th Celebration Street Banner Competition
For the Chilliwack 150th Street Banner competition, I created a design that captures the essence of our community's rich history and vibrant future. The banner highlights Chilliwack’s agricultural roots, with elements inspired by the surrounding nature—lush farmlands, the Fraser River, and towering mountains. The colors are warm and earthy, reflecting the agricultural landscape, while incorporating elements of growth and resilience, such as blooming flowers and thriving crops.
The story behind the banner is deeply tied to the spirit of Chilliwack’s past and its progress. Chilliwack, often referred to as the "Garden of British Columbia," has witnessed transformations over the years, from Indigenous land stewardship to modern-day farming and industry. My design symbolizes this journey—honoring the past while celebrating the forward-thinking mindset of its people.
For the Chilliwack 150th Street Banner competition, I submitted three designs, each telling a different story about the community. This open call gave me the chance to explore various aspects of Chilliwack’s history, culture, and future through my artwork. By submitting multiple designs, I was able to express a range of ideas and perspectives, contributing to the celebration of Chilliwack’s 150th anniversary in a meaningful and diverse way. Incorporating both organic and geometric patterns, the banner represents how tradition and innovation coexist in Chilliwack. It’s a tribute to the community's dedication to sustainability, growth, and the celebration of all who call this beautiful place home.
